When packing clothes don’t just stuff clean clothes into bags, or you’ll end up with a wrinkled mess at the other end. Most of your non-hanging clothes can simply be left in dresser drawers. If you have leftover dirty laundry, put it in a bag, preferably cloth rather than plastic, to ensure against mildew, and stuff the bag into an odd space in the truck.
For your collection of books, choose modest-sized boxes of a uniform size, if possible. Stack books of a similar size, filling around them with books set on edge. Pack them well so the books won’t shift in transit. Hang clothes in a wardrobe box as you would in a closet, not too tightly or they will get wrinkled.
Use a drawer-size box for coats, sweaters, and other large items. Overstuff the box so it will be firm and stackable once you tape it. Take a little extra time to stack books neatly and tightly, so they won’t get crumpled or bend. Unless you are sure you will be able to use a handcart when transporting them, use small boxes so they will weigh no more than 30 pounds.
Stack most of the books laid flat. Make stacks of books that are the same width and length. You may be able to fill in some spaces with books laid on end. Fill gaps with wrapping paper.
